Organization
Region II Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC)
Best practice Focus Area(s)
Customer and citizen focus
Summary
The provision is given to remote municipalities allowing them to construct their own tribal hut within the R2TMC premises wherein their respective populaces [relatives and watchers/bantays of Indigenous People (IP) patients] can be in-house during hospitalization.
These huts were built more than a decade ago and belong to the IPs of Kayapa, Ambaguio, and Alfonso Castaneda. They take on maintenance and cleanliness of their huts while R2TMC provides and shoulders the expenses of electricity and water for them. It is a new innovation when R2TMC, along with Dr. Cirilo Galindez, former Medical Center Chief, thought of expanding help to IP patients.
Background and Problem
The objective is to provide a suitable and/or comfortable place for the IP patient’s bantay/watchers from remote municipalities of the region where they can stay, take rest, relax and even prepare/cook their own native foods. This is an act of cultural sensitivity to avoid awkwardness or discomfort when several IPs are still not yet ready to mingle with their lowland counterpart.
Solution and Impact
With these native huts, it promotes good vibes and affirmative hospital-patient relationships. Allowing the remote municipalities to construct their own tribal hut within the R2TMC premises allows their respective populaces to be in-house during hospitalization. It is offered free; however, they shall take on maintenance and cleanliness of their huts while R2TMC provides and shoulders the expenses of electricity and water supply for them. Meeting with the concerned LGUs of Kayapa, Ambaguio, and Alfonso Castaneda helped fund the construction of their respective native huts which is currently offered free for IP patient bantay/watchers of their localities. This has increased IP patient confidence and trust in accessing health facilities.
Milestones
Fitting all together, the R2TMC made a good reputation in the field of healthcare services resulting in a well thought of health facility in the region.
